The Quiet Corner Journal Call for Papers
The Quiet Corner Interdisciplinary Journal is calling for submissions to be featured in the second issue of the journal, housed in the University of Connecticut’s Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages.
The issue is titled “What to Make of ‘Nation'?” and looks for article submissions that treat the often-problematic complexities of nation-centric constructs such as nationhood, nationalism, and national identity, as well as counter-constructs rooted in discourses of globality, postcolonialism, universality, human rights, and other bustling spheres of critical inquiry.
This issue aims to complicate the very idea of nation by interrogating the limitations of its political, geographical, and socio-cultural dimensions. The authors are invited to explore ‘nation’ in any of its linguistic, literary, and artistic manifestations.
Submissions might also investigate currents of otherness and togetherness as they relate to national identity, language, and citizenship. In recognition of the complex dynamics underpinning our contemporary global reality, this issues strives to promote inquiry into the deeply entrenched concept of nation, its history, and its points of intersection with other contentious constructs including race, gender, and class. The authors are thus encouraged to participate in a complex dialogue with the broad spectrum of post/sub/trans/inter/supra/infra/counter/national discourses.
Relevant themes and topics may include but are not limited to:
● Citizenship, identity politics and nationalism
● Diaspora, borders, imagined communities and migration
● Human rights, empathy, biopolitics, ecocentrism, and politics of oppression
● Postcolonialism, transnationalism, and posthumanism
● Racism, nativism, populism, and subaltern studies
● Neoliberalism, globalization/globality, and network structures
● Narrative and creative cultural production
